American Breese

American Bresse have many unique traits. Bresse birds are widely known for their excellent tasting meat. While they do come in 4 colors we have decided to focus only on white Bresse for meat and egg production. They average around 6 to 7 lbs at maturity and are known to produce a fat marbling effect just like beef. This makes the most succulent, juicy, firm but tender meat imaginable. Along with the marbling effect, Bresse have an intense flavor that leaves you begging for more. These birds are a far cry from the bland chickens currently being put on our tables.

Besides being widely known for their meat, Bresse chickens are also excellent egg layers and can lay up to 250 eggs per year per hen. Bresse chickens were first imported from France in 2011 into the United States. Bresse chickens are very expensive in France, commanding a high premium over other fine poultry in the region. One Bresse hen in France can cost up to $200.00 U.S. dollars. 

We chose the Breese breed for our farm due to the excellent foraging abilities that allow for us to raise them with minimal store bought products. These are a truly sustainable breed to try on any farm that is looking to escape being reliant on commercial hatcheries.
