Mottled Bantam Cochin

Bantam Cochin

The bantam cochin was included in the first edition of the Standard of Excellence of the American Poultry Association in 1874. What makes the cochin stand out is their excessive plumage that covers both leg and foot. The skin beneath is a lovely yellow.

Cochins are rather quiet chickens, and tend to be quite calm as well. They are a joy to have in the barnyard not only for their gentle demeanor but also their adorable looks. They are fair egg producers and not very suitable for meat production.

Hens tend to turn broody very easily and make absolutely wonderful mother hens.

If you are looking for a mother hen to pretty up the barnyard they are the perfect breed.

Due to the excessive plumage they are sometimes harder to breed without intervention. (plucking of rear feathers or AI)
